About the role

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for Rare Diseases at AstraZeneca acts as a scientific bridge between the company and healthcare professionals. The role focuses on delivering evidence‑based information, supporting product launches, and advancing research initiatives to improve patient outcomes in rare disease areas.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain trusted relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs), healthcare professionals, and stakeholders across the rare diseases space.
• Spend approximately 70% of time on field activities, including scientific exchange, stakeholder engagement, and visit preparation.
• Develop and execute strategic KEE engagement plans with clear objectives and scientific alignment.
• Provide timely, balanced scientific updates and respond to unsolicited medical inquiries in compliance with regulations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support pre‑ and post‑launch activities, diagnostics, and brand strategy.
• Support local research initiatives, advisory boards, speaker training, and external medical education programs.
• Act as the internal expert on therapeutic area trends, clinical practice insights, and competitive landscape intelligence.
• Provide scientific support for formulary listings, product launches, and AstraZeneca‑sponsored medical events.
• Continuously enhance expertise through congress attendance, internal trainings, and the 70‑20‑10 learning model.
