Community Outreach Hygiene Promoter

About the role

The Community Outreach Hygiene Promoter leads WASH hygiene promotion and community mobilization activities, working closely with the Assistant WASH Specialist. The role involves delivering hygiene campaigns, house‑to‑house promotion, and supporting local volunteers to improve sanitation and health outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Support rapid needs assessments at community and household levels and translate findings into activity plans and budgets.
• Implement WASH response objectives in line with the WASH Coordinator’s strategy, acting as a liaison between IMC and target communities.
• Conduct household visits to assess and promote sanitation and hygiene behaviours.
• Deliver hygiene messages through community events, religious gatherings, radio broadcasts, and training sessions for food vendors.
• Engage WASH committees to identify challenges, monitor water treatment facilities, and ensure proper use and maintenance of communal sanitation facilities.
• Carry out sanitary surveys around water sources to detect contaminants and mitigate pollution.
• Distribute basic hygiene kits to crisis‑affected populations and submit weekly activity reports.

Required profile

• Experience in community‑based WASH or public‑health programmes.
• Ability to work in basic living conditions and adapt messages to local contexts.
• Strong communication skills for sensitising communities and training volunteers.
• Capacity to collaborate with local staff, stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors.
