Protection Coordinator (National Position)

About the role

The Protection Coordinator will lead the planning, implementation and monitoring of protection activities for the MA'AN project in Libya. This national position ensures that protection interventions are delivered on time, meet quality standards and align with humanitarian principles.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise all protection‑related activities, including awareness sessions, referrals, case management and capacity‑building.
• Plan and organise interventions according to the project workplan, timeline and approved methodologies.
• Collaborate with local and international partners, authorities and protection actors to ensure effective local implementation.
• Manage the partnership with the local implementing partner, guaranteeing timely and quality delivery of delegated tasks.
• Conduct protection needs assessments, consultations and analysis with target communities.
• Develop and maintain protection tools, methodologies and monitoring mechanisms.
• Collect, analyse and consolidate protection data and contribute to narrative reports.
• Ensure compliance with AVSI procedures, donor regulations and protection standards.
• Report regularly to the Country Head of Programmes and support strategic planning and fundraising initiatives.

Required profile

• University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Social Sciences, Humanitarian Action, International Relations, Law, Psychology or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience with international NGOs or humanitarian organisations in Libya, preferably in child protection or education.

Required skills

• Proven experience coordinating/implementing international development or humanitarian projects in Libya.
• Strong knowledge of humanitarian protection principles, safeguarding, AAP, gender & inclusion and Do No Harm approaches.
• Experience working with local partners, authorities and coordination mechanisms.
• Excellent planning, organisational, analytical, reporting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluent in English and Arabic (written and spoken); Italian is a strong asset.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for multicultural team environments.
