About the role

Perle is seeking native Libyan Arabic speakers to transcribe audio recordings into accurate, time‑aligned text. The work supports speech‑recognition and evaluation systems for leading AI laboratories. You will apply linguistic judgment rather than simple data entry, handling orthography, code‑switching, and non‑speech events.

Key responsibilities

• Convert studio and real‑world audio into precise written transcripts following Perle’s style guide.
• Mark speaker turns, overlapping speech, disfluencies, fillers, and non‑speech sounds such as laughter or background noise.
• Make orthographic decisions for dialectal and code‑switched speech, flag ambiguous segments, and note audio quality issues.
• Self‑review each submission against quality standards before delivery.
• Collaborate with QA reviewers on edge cases, calibration sessions, and style‑guide updates.

Required profile

• Native fluency in Libyan Arabic (Tripolitanian and Cyrenaican varieties) with lifelong residence or deep immersion in Libya.
• Strong command of Modern Standard Arabic for orthographic decisions.
• Familiarity with Berber and Italian loanwords in everyday speech.
• Minimum two years of professional transcription, captioning, court reporting, broadcast, translation, or linguistic annotation experience.
• Ability to work under deadline pressure while maintaining word‑level accuracy.
