Security Guard – Misrata

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a reliable Security Guard to protect its personnel, buildings and assets in Misrata, Libya. The guard will maintain a safe environment by monitoring the compound, controlling access, and responding to any security incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to ensure the safety of NRC staff, facilities and property.
• Detect and immediately report irregularities such as fire hazards, water leaks, or unauthorized persons.
• Inspect perimeter defenses—including gates, doors, fences, lighting and barbed wire—to verify integrity and report any tampering.
• Assist in reducing the impact of attacks by warning occupants, calling for assistance and supporting evacuations.
• Man the main gate at all times, allowing entry only for authorized individuals or vehicles.
• Verify visitor identities, log entries and exits, and ensure visitors meet their hosts.
• Maintain a real‑time record of all staff and visitors inside the compound.
• Screen incoming mail, packages and other deliveries, log them and hand them over to the appropriate personnel.
• Provide a thorough handover to the incoming guard at shift change.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a guard in humanitarian or recovery settings.
• Experience working in complex, volatile environments.
• Demonstrated ability to produce documented results related to security duties.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
