WASH Specialist

About the role

The WASH Specialist will implement water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities in Libya, working under the guidance of the WASH supervisor and in coordination with the International Medical Corps (IMC) team. The role includes conducting assessments, designing and supervising technical interventions, building capacity of national staff, and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rapid needs assessments and analyse results to develop activity plans and budgets.
• Assess in‑country resources and capacities for WASH program roll‑out.
• Provide technical supervision and input to the design and implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene systems for communities, health facilities, camps and schools.
• Develop concept papers, letters of intent, proposals and budgets aligned with the WASH strategy.
• Support the selection, design, rehabilitation and implementation of water sources, storage, treatment and distribution systems.
• Support the design and implementation of sanitation solutions, excreta disposal, vector control, solid waste management and drainage.
• Collaborate with partners to deliver context‑appropriate hygiene promotion programmes.
• Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) activities, including supervision and training of non‑clinical teams.
• Build capacity of national WASH staff and stakeholders through training and mentorship.
• Maintain internal and external networks with donors and stakeholders, prepare donor reports, capture lessons learned and implement project exit plans.
