Nephrologist (Primary Care) – Al Kufra, Libya

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a qualified Nephrologist to join its ACCESS 2.0 initiative in Al Kufra, Libya. The role focuses on integrating kidney‑related care into primary health services, supporting early detection, management, and referral of renal conditions within the Essential Services Package.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized consultations for patients with chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, hypertensive or diabetic nephropathy.
• Support early screening and risk stratification for kidney complications among NCD patients.
• Develop individualized management plans and ensure continuity of care within IRC‑supported facilities.
• Establish and strengthen referral pathways to higher‑level facilities for dialysis or advanced diagnostics.
• Train primary healthcare teams on nephrology screening and management protocols.
• Integrate nephrology services into routine NCD programming and adhere to Libyan Ministry of Health regulations.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialization in Nephrology.
• Experience delivering renal care in primary or community health settings.
• Familiarity with international nephrology guidelines and Libyan health regulations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and support capacity‑building activities.

Required skills

• Clinical decision‑making in nephrology.
• Patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for renal conditions.
• Development of referral mechanisms and care pathways.
• Training and mentorship of primary health staff.
