WASH Specialist

About the role

The WASH Specialist will lead the implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities in coordination with the WASH team and supervisor, following the organization’s WASH strategy. The role involves assessing needs, designing technical solutions, supervising implementation, and ensuring effective monitoring and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rapid needs assessments and translate findings into activity plans and budgets.
• Design, implement, and supervise water and sanitation systems for communities, health facilities, camps and schools.
• Develop and deliver hygiene promotion programmes tailored to local contexts.
• Prepare concept papers, proposals, budgets and donor reports; capture lessons learned and manage project close‑out.
• Build capacity of national WASH staff and stakeholders through training and mentorship.
• Coordinate with internal teams, NGOs, government agencies and donors to ensure integrated WASH responses.

Required profile

• Proven experience in WASH program design and implementation in humanitarian settings.
• Strong analytical skills for assessments, planning and monitoring.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and to lead capacity‑building initiatives.
• Excellent written communication for reporting and proposal development.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in water system design (source selection, treatment, distribution).
• Technical expertise in sanitation system design (excreta disposal, solid waste management, drainage).
• Knowledge of hygiene promotion and infection prevention and control (IPC) practices.
