Protection Associate (AVM)

About the role

The Protection Associate (AVM) will support IOM's Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) programme in Libya, providing protection‑focused assistance to migrants, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities. The role contributes to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by ensuring vulnerable individuals receive rights‑based support throughout their stay, journey and reintegration.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver direct protection services to migrants, including women, unaccompanied children, the elderly and medically vulnerable persons.
• Conduct protection assessments, identify protection risks and refer cases to appropriate services.
• Support the planning and implementation of voluntary humanitarian return operations, ensuring safety and dignity for beneficiaries.
• Coordinate with national authorities, UN agencies, donors and civil‑society partners to align protection interventions.
• Maintain accurate case records, contribute to monitoring, reporting and data‑tracking systems.
• Participate in capacity‑building activities for local stakeholders on migration governance and protection standards.

Required profile

• Relevant academic background (e.g., International Relations, Migration Studies, Social Sciences or related fields).
• Experience in protection or humanitarian assistance for vulnerable migrant populations.
• Familiarity with voluntary humanitarian return processes and migration governance.
• Ability to work in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment and adapt to evolving security contexts.
• Strong communication skills in English; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.

Required skills
