Area Manager – Humanitarian Programs

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking an experienced Area Manager to lead and coordinate its humanitarian programmes in Tripolitania, Libya. The role combines programme oversight, stakeholder representation and staff leadership to ensure effective, safe and results‑driven operations.

Key responsibilities

• Represent DRC at senior management level and act as the primary liaison with government authorities, donors, NGOs and UN agencies in Tripolitania.
• Lead and line‑manage all area staff, fostering a results‑oriented team culture and overseeing capacity‑building and nationalisation plans.
• Adapt the organisation’s national strategy to the local context, guide programme development and provide technical input for fundraising.
• Ensure programme implementation complies with DRC policies, security frameworks and donor regulations.
• Monitor project progress through Project Managers, guaranteeing timely and quality delivery.
• Maintain regular information flow with the senior management team and sector coordinators.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale humanitarian programmes in conflict‑affected settings.
• Strong knowledge of donor requirements, UN coordination mechanisms and local governance structures.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and promote staff development.
• Excellent analytical skills for context assessments and proposal development.
• Commitment to DRC’s security standards and safeguarding principles.
