Engineering Assistant

About the role
The Engineering Assistant will work within the Engineering and Facilities Management unit of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the incumbent will support the maintenance and operation of mission facilities in Tripoli.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise junior staff across trades such as carpentry, electrical, heavy‑equipment operation, mechanics, plumbing and welding.
- Install, commission, operate and maintain systems in accordance with safety codes and recognized standards.
- Prepare and review technical reports, work orders and assessments to determine work requirements.
- Develop, interpret and close out technical work orders, maintaining accurate inventory and documentation.
- Inspect work quality, diagnose problems and ensure satisfactory completion of tasks.
- Plan and organise work schedules, prepare designs, drawings and cost estimates for specific trade areas.
- Coordinate with engineering counterparts, provide instructions and training to junior assistants, and recommend material and equipment lists.
- Develop acquisition plans for engineering materials and monitor supply quality.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and waste‑management policies.
