Production Team Leader, Roasting & Smelting Process

About the role

The Production Team Leader will oversee the roasting and smelting operations, ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, coordinate resources and drive continuous improvement in a pyrometallurgical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage daily and monthly production plans, allocating labour, equipment and resources to meet deadlines.
• Lead daily team meetings, communicate goals, targets and provide performance feedback.
• Coordinate staff schedules, training and equipment readiness for smooth operations.
• Monitor output, enforce quality controls, ensure procedural compliance and take corrective actions when needed.
• Foster a positive team culture through recognition, teamwork promotion and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure all team members are trained and compliant with SOPs and company policies.
• Enforce health, safety and environmental standards, conduct regular inspections and promote a hazard‑free workplace.
• Verify and submit accurate production documentation and reconciliations to Finance on a daily basis.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of post‑graduate experience in a pyrometallurgical setting (rotary kiln, reduction and refining furnaces).
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good knowledge of safety, health, environment legislation.
• Ability to coach, mentor and motivate staff.
• Integrity, goal‑orientation and capacity to work under pressure.
• Basic computer proficiency.
