Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a senior expert to lead climate screening and environmental & social (E&S) safeguards for a EU‑funded technical assistance project supporting ECOWAS transport governance. The role will guide climate‑resilient, sustainable infrastructure planning across West Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate risk screening and resilience assessments for regional transport projects and corridors.
• Provide technical advice on E&S safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Prepare and review ESIA reports, ESMPs, resettlement frameworks, and stakeholder engagement plans.
• Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion, and social safeguards into project design and implementation.
• Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies, and guidance documents.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops and technical training for ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders.
• Support monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance of safeguard‑related activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, climate change, sustainability, social development, natural resource management or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience, or sustainable infrastructure development.
• At least 7 years of experience on infrastructure or transport projects in developing countries, preferably Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
