Shelter Technical Assistant - Misrata

About the role

NRC Libya is looking for a Shelter Technical Assistant in Misrata to support the day-to-day implementation of Shelter projects delivered directly by NRC. The holder must make mandatory daily site visits, monitor technical activities, follow up on field progress and ensure proper documentation and data management, and may travel to surrounding areas of intervention.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the construction and/or rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities, shelters and other community infrastructure.
• Supervise community mobilization, behavior change interventions and kit distributions.
• Take part in preliminary activities such as needs assessments, beneficiary identification and technical documents (BOQs, SOW).
• Build the capacity of masons, skilled and unskilled workers and local populations, and promote settlement sustainability through training on maintenance.
• Design shelter behavior change tools and materials for local authorities, management structures and beneficiary households.
• Collect, verify and upload weekly evidence (distribution lists, photos, testimonies, minutes, field books) to SharePoint in line with IMO requirements.
• Give feedback to the line manager on goods, contractor quality and beneficiary input, and apply Safe and Inclusive Programming principles.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction, architecture or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of technical experience in WASH and/or Shelter and construction, including hardware aspects.
• Experience in a humanitarian or recovery context, and in complex and volatile settings.
• Fluent Arabic, written and spoken; good English is a plus.
• Willing and able to conduct daily site visits.

Required skills

• MS Office, especially Word and Excel, and Outlook or similar email tools.
• Engineering software such as AutoCAD and related tools.
