Marine Vessel Inspector (Tug Boats, Work Barges & Dredgers)

About the role

The Marine Vessel Inspector will conduct technical and condition inspections of tug boats, work barges and dredgers. The role ensures vessels meet seaworthiness, structural integrity, machinery standards and regulatory compliance for safe operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive surveys of hull, deck, machinery, electrical systems and safety equipment on tugs, barges and dredgers.
• Inspect main engines, generators, pumps, winches, towing gear and dredging machinery for operational readiness and wear.
• Verify compliance with classification society standards, flag state regulations and client requirements.
• Review and validate vessel certificates such as Class, Flag, P&I, Insurance, Safety Equipment and Load Line.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports with photos, defect lists and corrective recommendations.
• Liaise with vessel masters, crew and technical superintendents to coordinate inspections and follow‑up actions.
• Assess structural damage, corrosion and overall fitness‑for‑purpose for towing, anchor handling and dredging support.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance during all inspection activities.

Required profile

• Marine Engineering degree, Naval Architecture or equivalent maritime qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in marine vessel inspection, surveying or technical superintendency, preferably with tugs, barges or dredgers.
• Familiarity with classification society survey standards (DNV, ABS, BV, Lloyd’s Register).
• Knowledge of dredging equipment is an advantage.
• Strong report‑writing and documentation abilities.
