Protection Officer – GBV & Child Protection

About the role

The Protection Officer (Gender‑Based Violence and Child Protection) will support the IOM Libya Country Office in designing, delivering and monitoring protection interventions for survivors of GBV and migrant children. Working under the Senior Programme Coordinator and the Programme Manager (Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants), the officer will contribute to safeguarding vulnerable populations along the Central Mediterranean Route.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement GBV and child protection programmes in line with IOM policies and donor requirements.
• Conduct needs assessments, case management and referral for survivors and at‑risk children.
• Collect, analyse and report data on protection trends, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
• Coordinate with UN agencies, NGOs, and local authorities to strengthen protection networks.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity‑building to staff and partners on GBV and child protection standards.
• Monitor programme budgets and resources, contributing to financial and operational reporting.

Required profile

• University degree in social sciences, humanitarian affairs, public health, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience in GBV and/or child protection programming in humanitarian contexts.
• Demonstrated knowledge of international protection standards and IOM operational procedures.
• Ability to work in a challenging security environment and travel within Libya.
• Fluency in English; Arabic proficiency is an asset.
